Back in February we met some folks who were about
to travel to Tibet and who offered to bring back
Tibetan yak bone amulets for us. Thanks to their
efforts, we've just received a shipment of 144
amulets. The 108 amulets on each mala are hand-carved
of yak bone in the form of Tibetan prayer Mantra
"Om Mani Padme Hum". Traditionally used for meditation
and prayer by Hindu and Tantric Buddhists, they are
also worn as necklaces by contemporary Americans of a Gothic bent.
For an informative, illustrated article on the use of
yak bone imagery in Asian, European, and American religions
and folk-magic, both ancient and contemporary.
